About This Blog and Me

A friendly Canadian HELLO to my fellow readers!

My name is Rosa and I have been living in Germany since January 2007. I was born in Ontario, Canada but grew up in a traditional Italian family. At the end of December 2006, I married a German fellow and during the first week of 2007, I followed him across the ocean to his homeland. We are living in northern Germany and we have three little boys under the age of five.

Ever since I moved here, I have been trying to find the best German ingredients that I can successfully substitute into my North American and Italian recipes. I started this blog as a way to record my findings and share them with other expats living in Germany. This guide can also be helpful to Germans trying to convert recipes that use measuring cups.

I'm not a professional writer or chef, but I will try to explain things as thoroughly as possible. The information that I post here is solely from my own experiences in the kitchen. I do a lot of online research, so I will provide the best possible solution(s), along with the resources that I used.

This blog is an on-going project and will be constantly updated. The areas that I will develop and expand over time are

  • European (metric) and North American measuring conversions
  • translate German food terminology into English
  • introduce German cooking methods and techniques
  • provide favourite product reviews (food and non-food items)
  • and of course, the occasional recipe

I hope that you will find the information on this blog useful. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me an email at rosasdolcevita@gmail.com. Even if something didn't work for you or you found a better solution than what I described, I would love to hear about it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Rosa
